| It's an understatement to say that teaching is a tiring job. As a teacher, and if you're a teacher I'm sure you'll agree with me, you play about 50 different roles. You're a parent, a classroom manager, a disciplinarian, sometimes a friend, an advisor, a counselor, a security guard, a psychiatrist, a role model, a janitor, an inspirational speaker...and you try your best to be a teacher with excellent, engaging lesson plans as well a teacher who models and teaches good behavior on top of all that.
Students have no clue what teachers go through.
Students REALLY have no clue what teachers go through.
My students have a self-control issue with speaking when I am giving instructions or teaching them something new. Now, I don't have a problem with them talking when they're working on activities or when we have group discussions (duh) - in fact, during those times I WANT them to talk, but when I'm teaching them, they KNOW they are supposed to close their mouths, give me their eyes, and listen.
I've even written self-control and goodness on the board so they have a visual reminder of the things they need to work on. 3 things that we are working on: self-control in talking/behavior, goodness, no complaining.
They know this, yet they continue to disobey what I tell them to do.
So, yesterday, I had them write "How I Will Change Starting Now" on the top of a sheet of paper, and explain how they, as individuals, are going to change in terms of their behavior.
Some of their responses are hilarious. Some are super sweet. Some, I do not understand...
This is an English Language Development class (aka ESL), so some of their English language skills aren't quite there yet. I thought I'd share the wealth with you guys - it made my day; it made my roommate's day; and maybe it will make yours a little better as well. Here are some snippets, mistakes and all:
"I need to change my talking because when I talk I get Ms. Shin get mad. Sow is not fair that I do things to fill bath to Ms. Shin. Now I wrily goin to change because Ms. Shin is bery good with us, And she dont yell at us. I wonder why we only have 1 of your class." ~Juanito
